5 Hobbies That You Can Turn Into a Business and Earn Extra Money

We’ve all read stories of people who turned their hobbies into billion-dollar businesses – and admired them for it. Some of them were struggling to make ends meet and decided to take a chance at entrepreneurship.

There’s Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Walt Disney – the list goes on and on.

“How did they do it?” you ask.

Well, if you combine the passion you have for your hobby with the desire to succeed, you can do it.

Turning a hobby into a thriving business is easier in this day and age than in the past, because there are more opportunities.

Here are 5 hobbies that can become a source of income.

Blogging

What are you passionate about? Is it gardening, finance, fitness, gaming, or cooking? Go ahead and start a blog. Join the ranks of self-styled experts populating the web.

You can create a simple website through WordPress – which has many free blog templates – and grow your blog over time. As you start to get a steady stream of visitors, you can join affiliate programs and ad networks and earn money.

Most popular bloggers started their blogs to share their expertise. As they spent more time blogging, they realized they could make good money out of it, and they did.

Writing

If you have a way with words, writing is for you. Big companies, businesses, and even individuals with websites are always looking for content writers. You can respond to job ads on reddit and Craigslist or create accounts on freelance marketplaces like Upwork, Fiverr, and PeoplePerHour.

Writing is not easy work, but if you put effort into it, you can make very good money on the side. And you don’t have to limit yourself to just writing, you can also become an editor and correct other people’s work.

Video Creation & Editing

Creating and Editing Videos

According to Forbes, people spend a billion hours every day on YouTube. It’s mind-blowing.

Videos have become so vital that businesses consider them an integral part of advertising. They are a powerful medium for traffic and branding.

If you have superb video-making skills, you can approach businesses and entrepreneurs looking to increase their brand visibility and offer your services. You can also create a YouTube channel and connect it to an AdSense account – and earn money from your monetized videos.

Photography

Do you have the ability to take beautiful photos? Chances are you can make money with your hobby. There are many ways you can monetize photography. You can create accounts on stock photography sites and sell your photos.

You can also earn money by marketing your work to potential clients. Look for people who need photographs for weddings, baby showers, graduations, and other events and offer discounted services.

Graphic Design

While there are many graphic designers out there, if you’re good at it, you can rise above the competition and make good money. Sites like 99designs.com connect graphic designers with clients, providing a ready market.

You can also respond to ads on different websites or create your own website to advertise your services and show samples of your work. If you have many unused designs you’ve created over the years, make money by selling them on marketplaces for graphic designers such as Graphic Leftovers.

Opportunities are all around you, but you must have the courage to seize them. If you can turn your hobby into a source of income, you’ll be living the dream.

  1. Hey Suprabhat,
    Nice share.
Well, I’m a freelancer and started my journey back in 2010.
But, I’m not sure by then any of the things that I do now, were a hobby or not.

As of now, I enjoy being a freelancer and now things you mentioned have become a hobby to me.
No stress, No pain. Just enjoying the things I do 😀

    Thank You and Keep sharing
